How to Overcome Fear and Continue to Thrive

peace stressfree May 23, 2019

If you know me, then you know that my amazing husband Lee has cancer and for the past few weeks, we have been out of state to be a part of a clinical trial. We are finally home, and although things have not been the easiest, I remain full of peace. Yes, there is a huge unknown. Yes, things are scary. Yes, things are hard. But this overwhelming peace I have during it all overtakes any other feeling I might have, and you can have it too.

We Are All Fighting

I don’t understand why Lee has cancer nor do I need to. What I do understand is that God is good and he uses all things for His glory. Lee is strong and will fight no matter what. I have my own fighting to do on his behalf through prayer.

The reason I am able to have such peace during anything that comes my way is because I know that God is in control. He says I have already won. That doesn’t mean I don’t get upset, sad, cry, or wonder. What it means is, after I have processed my feelings and give my situation to God, I am able to sleep at night, I am able to laugh, I am able to smile.

God is an understanding God. He created us, flesh and spirit, so he knows that we need time to process.

By putting my hope and faith in Him, I no longer have to worry. I know that He is always up to something good no matter what.

Let Go and Let God

If you are going through something completely out of your control, I encourage you to talk to God. It doesn’t have to be anything formal or a 15-minute long speech. Just a simple sentence will do. In fact, wherever you are, I want to pray with you now:

God thank you for your unconditional love. Thank you for always providing a way. I know that you are the creator of all things and that because of you I have already won. God, I don’t always understand what is happening, but I give you control of my life and of my situation. Please give me overwhelming peace and comfort during this time. I put my trust in you and my focus on you as I step into this new season of peace. Amen!

You will be amazed at the peace that will overtake your emotions. John 16:33 says, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have trouble. But take heart. I have overcome the world.”  Just because we worship an amazing God does not mean our life will be perfect. It means that through him we will have perfect peace.

Let go and let God - it’s a real thing.
