Put an End to the Overwhelm

motivation organization Jan 04, 2018

People seem to be in a constant state of overwhelm these days. Taking kids to practice, building a business, caring for yourself along with all the other day to day things we have to do can overload a person. Living in a constant state of overwhelm can lead to forgetting things, making mistakes, and feeling badly about yourself. Our minds can only hold so much before they start letting other things slip. Once the overwhelm starts to affect us this way it can make the overwhelm grow. There is a solution, and it’s fairly simple.

Years ago, I learned a simple yet effective trick from Chalene Johnson  to keep the overwhelm under control and in turn, make me feel as though I have everything else under control, too. SImply writing it all down can help you process everything so much better than you could ever realize. I write about the things I need to pray on, the appointments I need to remember, or any other thoughts or obligations that are floating around in my head. When I do this before bed, it’s almost as if I am taking all my worries out of my head and putting them on the paper so that I can rest easily. It’s really that simple. By putting pen to paper you will begin to feel more relaxed and in control of things.

This is roughly the same as journaling and it’s been scientifically proven that journaling is good for our minds. Taking all those thoughts and things we need to remember and simple putting them down on paper so that we can see them in front of us is liberating. It helps us process and really work through anything we have been struggling with. If I have something that I will be praying on, the act of writing down the issue can often help me find the solution I have been looking for.

You can use something as simple as a spiral notebook and any old pen lying around the house, or you can go buy a special pen and notebook just for this. I have seen many people swear by making bullet journals, where you make something of a bullet list of your day. Others like to use  planners that have plenty of room to write everything down. It’s up to you how you choose to do it, but the end result will be the same. You are unburdening yourself of all these thoughts that are cluttering up your head. Putting those things on paper makes you feel as though you don’t have to remember. They are written down and completely safe which will allow you to rest easier knowing that you aren’t forgetting anything. In the morning you can look over everything you wrote down the night before so that it can jog your memory and keep you organized and efficient. Even better, if you are a lady that carries a decent sized purse, maybe you can keep your notebook with you. This can really help you stay focused and allow you to keep the overwhelm down all day long.
